We’re back to talk about SteamCon US 2018. We promised you a provisional schedule of events before the close of the early bird ticket sales, and here it is! Early bird ticket sales end soon, at 12 noon (BST) on Monday the 14th of May, WHICH IS ON MONDAY! If you haven’t bought your ticket for SteamCon US yet, go grab your ticket HERE! Back with us? Grand. We’re going to go over some of the events taking place at SteamCon US as well as telling you where you can book accommodation for SteamCon US at a reduced rate.
Onsite Room Booking
SteamCon US takes place at the Opryland Resort in Nashville, TN. Our new venue offers significant space for SteamCon US to grow, including more gaming space, areas for vendors, and increased seminar space. There’s also plenty of choice for food with 17 on-site dining options, shopping, an on-site golf course, and a spa. It’s truly a ‘destination’ location and gives guests a ton of options to enjoy their stay. And that’s on top of your ‘normal’ amenities like pools! Steamforged Games has secured a generous block room rate that not only gives a great room and parking discount, but also additional amenities like free dry cleaning and a daily bucket of balls to use at the driving range if you choose. SteamCon US attendees can use the link below to book their onsite room at our reduced rate:
Friday October 12th
Kicking things off on Friday, we will be opening the doors at 9am with the first hour purely dedicated to getting everyone inside so that you can head straight to the retailer and open play room, Tennessee B, and pick up the latest releases from Steamforged Games and our friends. It can often be a struggle finding time between events and seminars to go and buy your brand-new miniatures and accessories, which is why we don’t start any of our events until 10am on both Friday and Saturday. As soon as you’ve done all your shopping, you can head over to our open play spaces and start playing your favourite games!
At 10am we kick off our organised play events in the Tennessee A room. Godtear is already having a huge year in 2018, and it’s hard to believe it’s been almost two years since the game’s first teaser images were shown at SteamCon UK in 2016. We’re setting aside time each day for Godtear events as well as plenty of room for Godtear open play. These events are currently just marked as ‘X Godtear Event’ in the schedule, because we’re still nailing down the exact details of how these events will look. Rest assured though, that there will be plenty of opportunities for Early Access players to throw down with their favourite warbands as well as for players new to Godtear to take this exciting new miniatures game out for a spin. As we get closer to SteamCon US, we will keep you updated on all of the ‘X events’ as well as additional information on a number of introductory formats ranging from traditional demos to full game intros and even closer looks into the scenario and campaign system. We look forward to seeing you there and we hope that you can claim the power of the gods for your own!
At 10am we’ll also be starting the Guild Ball US Championship East. Anyone can enter this event, and the winner will get invited to play in the Guild Ball World Championship Finals a few weeks later at SteamCon UK. The US Championship replaces the LCQ event that we ran last year at SteamCon US. However, we learned the lessons from last year’s monster LCQ and so have decided to run the Guild Ball US Championship over two days. We’re going to run the first four rounds of the US Championship on Friday, after which we will ‘cut’ to the top 8 players. Those players will return to complete the final three rounds on Saturday, again starting at 10am. This will give the vast majority of people the chance to go and enjoy the other aspects of SteamCon. One of those aspects is the triumphantly returning Rookie League, which was one of the most enormously popular aspects of last year’s SteamCon.
At last year’s SteamCon we trialled a challenge table for Dark Souls™: The Board Game where the Unkindled (you!) tried to take down the mighty Ornstein & Smough with our specially equipped heroes. This year challenge table will return, but this time featuring one of the game’s mega bosses. Which one? You’ll have to come along to find out…
Are there games in the Steamforged library that you haven’t tried yet? We’ve already mentioned that there will be plenty of opportunity to have a demo of Godtear, but there will also be demos available for the hugely popular Dark Souls™: The Card Game as well as Resident Evil™ 2 - The Board Game. Alternatively, if you’re already a fan of all our other games, come and ask us for a demo of Guild Ball!
We’ll also be starting our seminars at 10am in the Presidential Suite. SteamCon seminars have become a fan favourite so we’ve secured a much larger space for our seminars than we have in previous years. We don’t have final details on what the seminar schedule will be for this year, but you should expect to see the return of fan favourites such as the ‘design a model’ series as well as a variety of background-based seminars with SFG Lead Writer Sherwin Matthews.
In addition to our seminars, we’ll be expanding the hobby aspect of SteamCon US. We’re super excited to announce that Elizabeth Beckley-Bradford and Michael Archer will both be teaching classes over the weekend. Both are world class talents and fantastic teachers! If you’re interested in taking your hobby game to the next level, this is where you can do it!
After a hard day of having fun, we all get to relax at the SteamyCon Mixer. This is a fantastic opportunity to get some face to face time with the Steamforged staff, including the developers of your favourite games. In previous years we’ve also given away a set of limited edition Guild Ball stat cards to each person at the mixer, I wonder what the cool swag could be this time?
Saturday October 13th
Saturday starts off in much the same fashion as Friday, the stores and open gaming all open at 8am with no events or seminars until 10am.
Godtear events and organised play will be available once again, in the same manner as Friday; as will our selection of challenge and demo tables.
At 10am the top 8 of the Guild Ball US Championship will battle it out to see who will be getting on a plane a few weeks later to play in the World Championship Finals. But we’ll also be spinning up a number of other Guild Ball events to keep everyone else entertained, including the highly requested Guild Ball doubles format. In a Guild Ball doubles event, you get to team up with one of your best buddies and attempt to coach a team together! Alternatively, do what many people did last year, and just play a bunch of pick-up games in our Rookie League.
In the evening of Saturday, everyone will be gathered into the seminar space (the Presidential Suite) to witness the spectacle that is the Steamforged Games Keynote & Staff Q&A. If you’re at all interested in anything Steamforged is doing over the next year (and of course you are, you’re at SteamCon!), come along and see what we have planned for the future. We’ll even be pausing all other events so that no one has to miss out!
The Pundit volunteer scheme is incredibly important to us. Pundits are our ‘people on the ground’ helping to drive community interest and engagement as well as running countless demos and events. Each SteamCon we love running our Pundit Party after the Q&A to show our appreciation for this fantastic group of people.
Sunday October 14th
Sunday tends to have a slightly more relaxed schedule for the day since SteamCon tends to close down around 3pm. The shops and events will be open from 10am.
Godtear & Guild Ball events and organised play will once again be available in the same manner as Friday & Saturday, as will our selection of challenge and demo tables.
Once all events have concluded, we’ll gather everyone together once again just to say thank you for supporting Steamforged Games and SteamCon US. After that it will be time to say goodbye for another year and the countdown until next SteamCon begins!
That’s all for now folks, stay tuned for more updates on SteamCon US as we get closer to the weekend of the convention.
