Week Four Update | Free Cities Draft | Guild Ball

Welcome back, sports fans!

The dust is still settling after SteamCon US, where scores of coaches pledged their games towards the Free Cities Draft. From the response we received, we can tell this year’s event has really grabbed hold of the community and refused to let go. Attendees of SteamCon UK, your brothers and sisters stateside hit the ground running – time for you to step up and carry the baton across the finish line…

This weekend we saw who the top two Guilds chasing each rookie were – and boy, were there some surprises in there! Today, we’re going to follow up by showing you each of the Guilds and their three most popular players. Just because we’ve revealed your current rivals certainly doesn’t mean the race for other rookies is over, in fact far from it…

And before we begin, if you’re new to our Community Events and aren’t sure how to get involved, don’t worry. You can find out everything you need to know here.

Halfway There…

Let’s get started! Listed below are the current top three players for each guild.

It looks like Knuckles has fallen out of favour over at the Alchemist’s Guild, despite making an early top three appearance. His replacement is Champ, a popular choice with no end of admirers. Nomad still has an incredible groundswell of support, but Kami suddenly seems an interesting alternative, especially if you were looking to frustrate other teams’ choices with your high round draft…

Good, solid and reliable, the Blacksmith’s Guild are unwavering in their focus. Just like week one, the most support is still going towards Knuckles, Cutlass, and Gaffer. But we wouldn’t like to guess which one of these will be your choice just yet – after a strong start, support for Gaffer seems to have swung towards the Numasai brawler. We didn’t expect you of all people to pick raw strength over experience!

The Brewer’s Guild seem to have given up on #saveamber – although she’s still in the top three, so it might be the cause isn’t lost just yet, if the Farmers don’t poach her away at least. Knuckles and Cutlass round out the other top choices, but both are strongly contested. Maybe time to think about drinking less and getting more games in, eh? At this rate, even the Hunters will catch you up!

Stand aside Knuckles, #smokedmeat is back with a vengeance over at the Butcher’s Guild! We’ve seen a huge swing of support for the lad since week one, closing on Champ’s early lead. We also notice Operation: Obulus is still in full swing with plenty of results still being handed in for Kami. Great to see two solid backup choices, but at this stage maybe time to pick a player and stick with them…

IT’S PUNCH O’CLOCK! shout the Engineer’s Guild as they lead their charge for Knuckles, several of their number already measuring him up for a decent set of mecha-gauntlets. You guys know Pin Vice will simply lop his arms off though, right? He’s not alone of course. Kami could be an outside steal if you pick up the numbers or she survives early drafts, Champ too. Think big, #undercogs!

Top of the draft going into SteamCon US, and the Farmer’s Guild at this stage can have any player they want. Amber seems a massively popular choice from what we’re hearing, but you’re still surprisingly divided. It could be that deal with the devil will come back to bite you, as your Union allies force you into drafting Layne, Nomad, or yet another player instead…

After taking an interest in the first weeks, Fisherman players have dropped the chase for Amber after all. The race between Cutlass and Kami is still neck and neck, far too close to call, but we can see Layne sneaking up on the inside too. Definitely worth keeping a close eye on that third choice, pundits. If the first two get picked at the top end of the draft, the third-place might be all important…

The Hunter’s Guild have stuck to their guns, backing Layne, Edge, and Flea, but we’re not honestly sure if that’s because they remain popular or the hunters haven’t reported any more games since then. It might be the Hunters already feel they have enough choices on their roster, but their coaches really don’t seem to be embracing the Draft like the other Guilds.

Last time around we commended the Mason’s Guild for managing to distribute their support incredibly evenly, and the legacy of that remains, giving them strong backing for every rookie. That said, out of the pack at last bursts Kami as we saw in the last chapter of the story, and she’s accompanied by Edge and Champ. Things just got a lot more exciting in the middle of the table, sports fans!

At last we come to the Mortician’s Guild, and you guys would likely be doing a lot better if those unruly Ratcatchers would just get with the program… of course, it might be they’d vote for the wrong player if you did convince them. The Morticians feel important for backing several players contested by their closest rivals – Gaffer, Edge, and Layne, we’re looking at you, and so is the Ferryman.

…Living on a Prayer

If your favourite player isn’t listed for your team, you still have time to try and build support among your fellow coaches, but don’t drag your heels! Now we’re halfway through, the Shadow Games have deepened more than ever, with plenty of sneaky backroom dealings.

Now, enough time wasted reading this – season four is here! Time to get your head down and report those games!
