VETERAN'S OPINION - MIDAS

Hello!

Welcome back to the Veteran’s Opinion! This week we’ll be reviewing the Superstar Captain known as Midas. From the off we can see he’s got an above average Influence Allowance of seven . He can do a lot with his activation, however this greediness will rob his teammates of their Influence. Midas is the most versatile Captains to embrace the game of Guild Ball. His Heroic Play Metallic Skin allows him to score goals, take out players or survive strong onslaughts with his defensive abilities. His Character Play Clone as well as Unpredictable Movement mean he has a good chance of escaping from any character in the game, except those with Where’d They Go?

To go along with his natural versatility, he also has the Character Play True Replication which allows him to replace ‘True Rep’ with an opponent’s Character Play. Be wary of your deployment of anyone with a desirable Character Play such as Scything Blow, The Unmasking, Where’d They Go? or Dirty Knives. If they deploy outside of 18” then he is unlikely to try and steal it. True Rep tends to be a first turn ability, and if you can deny it to Midas then it becomes undesirable to spend 5 inf after turn one on a single play. 

I have spoken to multiple Alchemist players in our office and they have said that the way to defeat Midas is to do two things (obviously easier said than done):

1) Target the other players, specifically Vitriol, if you can control or kill her then the team's Influence usage decreases as Miads and Vitriol tend to take their full compliment.

2) How will you respond to the goal Midas scores? It's likely that Midas will score, it's what he's designed to do. You need to be able to prepare for the activation that follows. Having a decent goal threat such as Sakana, Mist or Brisket available with enough influence on them to score immediately can keep the VP difference close. OR you'll need to be able to give it to a player who can 'kill' the ball by successfully holding it.
