If you’re new to working with resin, check out our previous blog which provides some general advice for the cleaning and assembly of resin miniatures. Once you’ve had a read through that article, continue to see how to assemble Avantika!
A final resin production piece was used to create this guide. Always dry fit your pieces before trying to glue them to ensure a good fit!
Step 1 – Cleaning Up the Miniature
Before you start putting glue on the pieces of your Avantika miniature we recommend going over the miniature with a sharp X-Acto knife, cutters and some files to clean up any excess material left from the casting process. Where possible, cut away from yourself and always take your time. You can remove more material if needed, but it’s much harder to put it back! If you’re a youngster be sure to get assistance from an adult when handling sharp objects and tools!
Step 2 – Dry Fitting
With all the pieces of the miniature cleaned up and prepped for assembly, it’s time to dry fit the pieces to ensure everything fits as it should. Remember: don’t use any glue when dry fitting!
Step 3 – Attaching Avantika’s Hat & Arms
With dry fitting finished and everything fitting as it should, it’s time to start applying some glue! My preference is to finish assembling the miniature before attaching it to a base, but some prefer the opposite. If you’d prefer to attach Avantika to her base before attaching her arms and hat simply jump to step 4 of this guide and then come back to step 3 once you’ve finished.
Her hat needs a small amount of glue in the socket and then put the ball on Avantika’s hat into it. Don’t overload the gule as you don’t want to risk it overflowing onto her face!
It is highly advised to dry-fit this piece first! Avantika’s left arm requires a dab of glue on the flat surface at the end of the glove and on the socket on her hip.
Then bring the arm in from the rear under the flowing fabric. The glove will attach to her arm and the scabbard’s ball will fit into the socket.
Finally, to attach Avantika’s right arm simply add a small dab of glue to the ball on the end of the arm and pop it into the socket ensuring the sword is pointing down.
Step 4 – Attaching Avantika to her Base
As the final step it’s time to attach Avantika to her base! When gluing Avantika to her base, it’s worth noting that you can apply the glue to either the base, or the bottom of Avantika’s feet… the choice is yours!
Note that Avantika’s feet may not line up perfectly with the cut-outs on the base. No need to worry! We can fix this when basing, which will be covered in step 6 of the painting guide which will be posted tomorrow!
