We’re back with another update about the Guild Ball World Championship Circuit for 2019!

A Wild Roaming Championship Appears!
We received two very strong applications from Austria and the United Arab Emirates for hosting the 2019 Roaming Championship. It took us a while to talk over the pros and cons of each application since both offered such a fantastic option for running a Roaming Championship. After much deliberation, we elected to award the Roaming Championship for 2019 to the United Arab Emirates!
Headed up by Guild Ball Pundit Ben ‘Kaladorm’ Downton in association with Back to Games. They had this to say about the upcoming UAE Guild Ball Championship:
“From the team that brought you the "I'm on a boat" Navigators launch party, comes a tournament of even more epic proportions - the UAE National Championships (or the Almost Last Chance Qualifier). In conjunction with Back to Games, the UAE's leading board and card games store, the UAE Guild Ball community are planning the final instalment of the national championships on the 18th and 19th October, leading to the World Championships held at SteamCon UK.
Some of the items on offer for attendees:
- Skatha trophy and entrance to the Guild Ball World Championships for the winner
- Loot bag for every player taking part in the championship with Guild Ball goodies
- Various random (UAE themed) prizes on offer, including a ride in a super car and a Guild Ball Falconers team
Held in October, the temperature will be a glorious 35C (or 95F for our American cousins). Offering more than just a tournament, we have an entire weekend to keep you entertained, particularly for those taking the time to travel and enjoy the country.
- Pre-championship tournament: A warm up for the early arrivals, last chance to test your super secret tech and get some last minute practice in.
- Insomnia gaming festival: The weekend is host to Insomnia Dubai, a 3 day festival of gaming, cosplay, eSports, and music.
- Desert Safari option: Experience some traditional UAE activities, including Dune Bashing in a 4x4, Falconry display, Camel Riding, Sand Boarding, and dining in the desert on traditional Arabic food.
Details for how to book your place in the tournament, accommodation, and tours, will follow soon.
There’s an additional honorary mention for the Austrians who will be running an unofficial National Championship even though their application for the Roaming Championship was unfortunately unsuccessful. Although the winner of the Austrian Championship will not receive an invitation to play at the World Championship Finals, we wanted to recognise the efforts the Austrian Guild Ball community have gone to. So, we’ll be awarding the winner of the Austrian Championship a free convention ticket to attend SteamCon UK 2019!
World Championship Circuit in Full
Now that we have details for almost all of our 2019 National Championships we can update our events list!
We’d also like to take this opportunity to congratulate to Jon Clough for winning the USA West Championship with his Engineers, and to Fraser McFetridge for winning the Belgian Championship with his Blacksmiths. Both have won a free convention ticket, hotel stay, and flight to SteamCon UK for the 2019 World Championship Finals!
* If international travel is not required then alternative travel arrangements will be made directly with the winner.
That’s all for today folks, keep your eyes peeled for information on Guild Ball National Championship events near you!
