P3 Grandmasters is back next year at AdeptiCon 2026.

New Zacchaeus lore hits the Warmachine app
There’s a nip in the air, and this time it’s not just because it’s December.

If you enjoy digging into the world behind your armies, this one is well worth a read.“In the farthest north of Immoren, where the aurora dances over endless snow, whispers tell of Zacchaeus, the Winter’s Chill. He is spoken of as a phantom rider on a giant white hare, a creature who comes with howling winds and bitter cold. For generations immemorial, parents have frightened wayward children with tales of the Winter’s Chill. It is said that wherever his great hare bounds, deathly cold and starvation follow.
As with all grymkin, there are different versions of his story. In Khador, there are three major versions of his tale, one being more popular among the Khards, another among the Kos. Few know the truth of his origin, but all versions of his story agree on one grim fact: Zacchaeus was once a mortal man whose wicked deeds doomed him to become one of the grymkin, those cursed horrors that punish the wicked across the land.
In one of the oldest tales, long ago in a time of great blizzards, a band of Kossite trappers became lost in an unnatural snowstorm. Among them was Zacchaeus, a hard-eyed guide whose heart was said to be as cold as the winter itself. The hunters’ supplies ran low, and their hope dwindled as the snow deepened. In these circumstances, Zacchaeus performed the mortal sin of betrayal: He murdered his companions one by one under the veil of the storm—first to steal their furs and food, and later, when the food ran out, to sate his own hunger by unspeakable means.
In that white hell, Zacchaeus survived on a cannibal feast, feeding on those who had trusted him. When at last he staggered out of the mountains alone, his eyes were wild and his soul irrevocably stained.
He did not live long after escaping the blizzard with his ill-gotten warmth. The villagers who welcomed the sole survivor soon discovered signs of his treachery—bloodstains on his coat, a pendant taken from a fallen friend, and his uttered nightmares while sleeping. Faced with their accusations, Zacchaeus fled into the woods to evade justice, but fate found him nonetheless. He froze to death that night, lost and alone, clutching stolen furs that could not warm the ice in his soul. As he died, his spirit moved on to Urcaen, and the Defiers eagerly took him into their embrace. Thus was born the grymkin called the Winter’s Chill.
No longer a man, Zacchaeus rose as a gaunt rider cloaked in rime and regret. He mounted a gigantic snow-white hare that emerged from the drifts—a beast as unnaturally large and cruel as the worst winter gale. From that day on, Zacchaeus carried the chill of death with him. He became the embodiment of starvation’s despair, preying upon those who committed the very sin that created him. Ever after, whenever travelers speak of a betrayer who murders companions to save himself, they warn that the Winter’s Chill is watching. Traitors and cannibals who wander into the northern wilds meet a fate as frozen as the caravan Zacchaeus betrayed: Their blood turns to ice in their veins as the rider and his hare descend upon them, and their screams die on the wind.”
