It's WARMACHINE WEDNESDAY! Update Your App!
Steamforged Games - Hey all! Below is the regularly-scheduled Warmachine Wednesday update, direct from Privateer Press. We'll be back tomorrow with the next key update following Monday's announcement, as promised.
Warmachine Wednesday!
Wednesday has arrived, which means it’s time for your weekly drop of new content and features in the WARMACHINE app!
This week’s update for subscribers is the first installment of new tales of Cryx: Waking the Dead Part One: “Ghost of a Chance” by Aeryn Rudel, which sees the forces of the Nightmare Empire once more bringing their vile intentions to the mainland of western Immoren…
The moment Nekane set foot in Nine Stone, she was nearly overcome by the raw power of it. The crumbling walls and ramparts were suffused with dire, chaotic strength, but the nine monoliths radiated a magical potency as strong as dragon fire.
Her attunement to incorporeal undead was an element of her Iosan heritage and one reason Deneghra had chosen her for this mission. Not only could she sense and direct the necrotic energies of incorporeal spirits, but she could also detect magic associated with death to a degree few others in the Nightmare Empire could. Deneghra had recognized Nekane’s unique power and how it might help them both achieve their goals.
Nekane approached the towering stones. She removed the gauntlet from her left hand and reached out, placing her living flesh against one of the great black pillars.
It was like stepping into the heart of a volcano. Power surged through her, and a flood of distorted images assaulted her mind. Stone knives flashed beneath a blood red moon, screams of pain and exultation howled on the wind, and writhing entities of pure darkness rose up from hellish depths. The power was incredible, ancient, and absolutely untamable.
With a strangled cry, Nekane wrenched herself away from the pillar and fell back onto the ground. Her breath came in quick, ragged gasps; her head throbbed. Surely there was more than sufficient energy here to power to extract the god Morrow from Urcaen, but who could control it? There was a pall of metaphysical chaos that hung over the place, a legacy of countless years of ineffable magic. It was not the kind of sorcery that could be bent and shaped to her will. It simply would not serve.
She felt another presence enter the ruins. As she lurched to her feet, she saw Chemosh hurrying in her direction.
“Report,” she said.
“A Cygnaran patrol, ten strong, Storm Knights,” Chemosh said. “They are headed here.”
“Can we outrun them?”
Chemosh shook his head. “They are mounted.”
“Pull the thralls into the ruins. We will fight here.”
Nekane raced to the edge of the ruins where Hades waited, a trickle of necrotite smoke issuing from his stacks. She was no necrotech, but she understood the basics of necro-mechanika. With a few adjustments, she turned Hades’ furnace up to full stoke, and the helljack came alive in a burst of green Cryxlight, his presence blooming in her mind like an exploding star.
Let them come.
