Warmachine Command Sets Update
The upcoming Cryx Necrofactorium Command Starter introduces a new type of Warmachine set that’s a great way to start a new army, whether you’re a new or existing player. We call these Command sets.
Command sets include exactly 30 points worth of models, and will always contain a warcaster and warjack, or a warlock and warbeast. This makes them fully playable out of the box at the 30pt level.
That means you and a friend can start playing Warmachine without needing anything more than a Command set each.*
*Well, you’ll need a playing surface, terrain, dice, and tape measure, but you take our point.
All new army releases will include a Command set option, including (at least) a warcaster / warlock, character warjack / warbeast, character unit, and character solo.
There are a couple of different types of Command sets. We’ve already mentioned the Cryx Necrofactorium Command Starter, which follows the aforementioned format of a warcaster, character warjack, character unit, and character solo.
The upcoming 2-Player Starter Set does, too — with a twist. You see, the 2-Player Starter Set features 30pt forces for both Cygnar and Khador. The only difference is that both forces are Command Cadres.
Cadres can be used across armies, meaning the Cygnar force can be used with both Storm Legion and the upcoming Gravediggers, and the Khador force can likewise be used with both Winter Korps and the upcoming Old Umbrey.
Speaking of Cadres…
Starting a New Army
As for the armies that are already available, we’re updating the current Cadres to turn them all into Command Cadres.
Because we were working with existing contents, it wasn’t possible for these Cadres to follow the exact same format. However, they are all now 30pts out of the box and do all contain either a warcaster and warjack, or warlock and warbeast (and more), making them the ideal starting point for a new army.
So, if you’re looking to get started with Dusk, Khymaera, Orgoth, or Southern Kriels, you can pick up the updated Command Cadre for that faction (now available to order) and have everything you need to take command of a new force.
Dusk Ghosts of Ios Command Cadre
But the Cygnar: Storm Forge and Khador: Annihilators Cadres don’t have warjacks. So, how do we turn those into Command Cadres?
Simple: we’re introducing two new warjacks. Meet Borealis and Avalanche!
The new-and-warjack-improved Khador and Cygnar Cadres won’t be released until later this year (shipping Q4 2024), but they’re up for pre-order now.
And if you own the original version of these Cadres but would like the new warjacks, these can be pre-ordered separately too.
Cygnar Storm Forge Cadre
There’s one more tweak that’s been made, which only affects the Khymaera: Shard Incarnates Command Cadre. We’ve completed a full scaling pass of the models in this set to increase their size, making them even more imposing on your battlefield.
All of these existing Command Cadre sets are now priced at $99.99 / £79.99 / €89.99. So, no matter which army you’re looking to start, you’ll have the exact same entry point in both points value and price across all of the armies.
All previous versions of these Cadres are no longer available, but any outstanding pre-orders will still receive those versions. If you’ve got an existing order for one of these Cadres, you should have an email from us already with more details.*
The exception is the Khymaera: Shard Incarnates, where we’ll be fulfilling all existing pre-orders with the new Command Cadre version. So, if you’ve ordered this Cadre, you’ll receive the larger models as well as the added Incarnate Conjurer Variant.
