Tarja Grimtusk doesn’t look like the sort of leader you expect to find among the Southern Kriels Kithguard. There is little of the calm patience often associated with the kriels’ traditions. Instead, she carries herself with the sharp awareness of someone who grew up expecting danger to appear without warning. Even now, among warriors who trust her command, there is something of the city about her, quick-eyed, restless, and always measuring the space around her.

That is because Tarja was not raised among the kriels. Her earliest lessons came in the crowded streets of Ord, where trollkin families struggled to survive on the margins of human cities. In places like Five Fingers, survival meant learning how to read people quickly, move through a crowd unnoticed, and solve problems before they had time to grow teeth. It was not an easy upbringing, but it taught Tarja instincts that have stayed with her ever since.

These instincts serve her well. As a warlock among the Southern Kriels, Tarja has an unusual affinity for the jungle trolls of Alchiere, guiding them through the dense terrain with confidence that feels almost effortless. Watching her command warbeasts in battle, it is easy to imagine she has always belonged among the kriels.

But reality is more complex.

Tarja’s road south was not a return to tradition, but an escape from the consequences of a hard life and poor decisions. When she first arrived in Alchiere, responsibility sat poorly on her shoulders. She resisted the discipline expected of a warlock, testing every boundary and frustrating every teacher who tried to guide her.

These days, Tarja Grimtusk serves as a captain of the Kithguard, leading fast-moving strike teams through the jungles and tunnels of Alchiere. It is a role that suits her well. Quick decisions, sharp instincts, and a willingness to strike before the enemy realises what is happening.

Tarja does not pretend that the past can be erased. Some choices leave marks that never fully fade. What she can do is ensure that the future she helps build for the Southern Kriels is stronger than the life she left behind.
