If you know Epic Encounters (EE), you’ll know big, highly detailed boss minis are our usual thing. From Red Dragons to Frost Giants, we’ve sculpted some truly impressive beasts. (And if you don’t know Epic Encounters, you can find out more here.)
Make no mistake, there is a big boss in the Ruins of Symbaroum sets — but that’s not what we’re here to talk about. Today, we’re here to spotlight the player character miniatures, which we’ve introduced for the first time in Ruins of Symbaroum. More specifically, the ranger.
Meet the Ranger
This time, we turned our sculpting talents to creating player character minis — and we had an absolute blast in the process. Symbaroum is such a dark and evocative world, there was plenty of inspiration for us to draw on.
Found in Epic Encounters: Ruins of Symbaroum – The Gem in the Barrow, the Symbaroum ranger mini is ideal for stealthier players. And given the Gem in the Barrow adventure involves pulling off a heist, stealth is definitely on the menu.
This mini was made for gloomy forest surroundings. They’ll fit right in as a light-footed addition to your party (dice permitting), prepared to lead the way through the undergrowth.
Although the mini is classed as a ranger, making it usable in any fantasy roleplaying campaign, you could also choose to play them as a Hunter, one of the five Symbaroum classes.
What is the Gem in the Barrow?
If you like the look of the ranger, you’ll need to check out Gem in the Barrow.
The first of two roleplaying sets that make up our Ruins of Symbaroum collab with Free League, Gem in the Barrow is a tense heist adventure set against the mysterious, folkloric Forests of Davokar.
If you’re a Game Master, you’ll have a blast keeping your players guessing as they search for an ominous artifact with unsettling power. One moment, they’re joking and enjoying the camaraderie around the campfire — the next, they’re keeping close and keeping one eye on the treeline.
The best part? Your prep work is basically zero — just grab the set and start weaving a dark fantasy adventure as if you’d planned it.
If you’re a player, you’ll enjoy working as a close-knit team as you hunt the artifact — but you’re not alone in your search. Three rival factions also seek the artifact — barbarians, goblins, and elves — each with their own motives. Will your party prevail?
Gem in the Barrow is out now, and we’ll be spotlighting more of the player character miniatures in future articles. In the meantime, make sure you join the Steamforged Discord to hang out with us and other roleplayers.
