Lore for cold, dark nights: Saga: The Old Ways – Chapter 1

This week, we’re learning the old ways. A story steeped in the bone-deep cold and creeping folklore of Khador. The Old Ways is a brand-new narrative that dives deeper into the ancient borderlands where myths walk alongside man and prophecies are all too real.
“I want a scary story tonight.”
The young prince was finishing his evening ablutions as Katya turned down his bed. “You will have nightmares,” she told him matter-of-factly.
The young prince spoke in unaccented Khadoran—speech and enunciation were among the lessons he received each day—while Katya’s Umbreyan accent was still strong. It was partly why she had been chosen as one of the prince’s many governesses, tutors, and valets. Not the accent itself, but where it was from. Her connection to old Umbrey and a part of the prince that was now lost.
“I hardly ever have nightmares,” Vlad said as he came from the washbasin and sat on the edge of his bed.
“Oh really? Then what do you dream about?”
The prince thought about this for a moment. “Warjacks, lately. I wish that I could be a warcaster, like my father was.”
“Be careful what you wish for, little prince,” Katya said, smiling. “A warcaster carries a heavy burden.”
He lay down in his bed, and she tucked the blankets up around his shoulders. Here in the palace, it was not so cold, even in the midst of the Khadoran winter, but still there was enough of a chill that the blankets were welcome.
“Very well,” she said, “a scary story, if I can manage one. I will tell you a tale that my mother told me. A story about the old lands, the old ways…”

New rules: Exulon Nostilla & The Aberration

Fresh from the deepest nightmares of the Cephalyx hives comes Exulon Nostilla, a Journeyman warcaster who’ll work for just about anyone — if you’re brave (or foolish) enough to let her.

Nostilla’s toolkit is all about battlefield control. She can seize enemy warriors with Dark Seduction, return fallen troopers to play with Revive, and protect key models using Vision. Her psychic ranged attack disables enemy spellcasting for a round, and she can funnel focus to monstrosities with Vitalizer. A flexible, ruthless support piece.

Backing her up is The Aberration, Warmachine’s first-ever 80mm super heavy monstrosity — and it hits the table like a biomechanical wrecking ball. Its Hormone Manipulation ability lets you pick from three powerful effects at the start of each activation, adapting damage output, accuracy, or mobility to suit the moment. Its massive weapon loadout includes critical decapitation, grievous wounds, and lockdown effects — all while benefiting from Hyper-Aggressive movement and Impervious Flesh damage reduction.
Both models are coming this August — but here’s the best bit:

ICYMI: AMA with Mat Hart
Last week, co-creator Mat Hart swung by the Warmachine subreddit for a live AMA — and it did not disappoint.

Community questions ranged from game balance to narrative futures, but the standout moment? A first-look teaser of the upcoming Dusk Colossal: The Phantasm. It’s haunting. It’s beautiful. It’s very big.
