Rules galore! January update, 2026 Steamroller, and Thornfall Alliance —— Warmachine Wednesday
It’s Warmachine Wednesday, and yep, it’s a chunky one.
The January update is now live in the Warmachine app, which means it’s time to update, open the list builder, and get your forces built ready for the 2026 season.
If you want the full picture, the changelog is your best friend. It’s got side-by-side comparisons, so you can easily see what’s changed without checking through old list notes. Note: the changelog has had some minor updates following the preview on Jan 14, 2026.
Today’s TL;DR
- January balance update now live – Update your app
- January changelog update – Check out what's changed
- Steamroller 2026 drop – Check out the new matched play scenarios for this year
- Thornfall Alliance rules unleashed – Plenty of pigs just came to market, and by market, we mean the Warmachine app. Time to get list shopping!
- New Warmachine Discord! Warmachine’s too big to squeeze into the Steamforged server, so we’ve given it its own dedicated space.
- Upcoming releases – Azhdarak and Captain Eira & the Railless Interceptor hit the store soon
-
MiniCrate – Khymaera’s Blighted Spinner is leaving MiniCrate soon. Who will take its place?
New Discord! Hang out and get your questions answered
With the January update comes the launch of a dedicated new Discord server for Warmachine and the Iron Kingdoms!
Warmachine's way too big to be squeezed into the Steamforged server, so we're giving it its own dedicated space. There, you'll find channels to discuss army lists and lore, places to get painting advice and share tips (and show off), and spaces for battle reports and Iron Kingdoms roleplaying campaign write-ups.
There's a dedicated feed where your favourite Warmachine creators will share updates, and you can even customise your display name to show your (current) army allegiance. There's more, but you'll need to join to see it!
You'll also be able to talk directly with the Warmachine team and get official rulings from the rules adjudicators. Basically, it's the ideal place to chat about the big update.
There already some excellent community-run Warmachine spaces on Discord which are still hugely useful, and this doesn't take away from those. We're just doing our bit to create an official, easy-to-find space to help grow the community, that also gives you a direct line to us.
See you on Discord! (No, seriously; we're literally waiting right now.)

You’ve previewed, discussed, and theorised. Now, it’s finally time to put your ideas on the table and start rolling some dice!

New year, new scenarios — Steamroller 2026
Of course, with the annual balance update comes a whole new Steamroller, ready for the upcoming tournament season.
Steamroller is the official tournament document for Warmachine, covering everything you need to know to run and play in Warmachine events. That includes the scenarios for the year, organiser guidance, scoring, and recommended timings. For the full lowdown on this year’s Steamroller, check out this article.
Steamroller 2026 isn't available in the Warmachine app yet, but it will be in the coming days. Keep an eye out for updates."
Thornfall Alliance rules drop
A newly-revamped Army of Legend, Thornfall Alliance barged its way into the Warmachine Tribe earlier this month, and now they’ve got new rules to boot. If you haven’t already, you can still pick up a subscription (for less than spray can), grab the free Welcome Pack, print those pigs and start playing Warmachine.
Here’s a preview:
Lord Carver BMMD Esq. III
Lord Carver doesn’t need an introduction, although he’d absolutely demand one.
He’s picked up some sizable changes, and we don’t just mean his new 40mm base. With Dual Attack and some extra bite, he’s upgraded from problem to personal offence. If you’re thinking about getting into Carver’s personal space, just know he’s very enthusiastic about that plan, for entirely different reasons than you are.
Targ
Targ’s feeling the wider accuracy shift across the game, but he’s also bringing some handy new tricks for the Farrow.
With Arcane Assist, which lets him upkeep a leader’s spell for free, and Repair, so he can patch up friendly faction constructs for 1d6, he’s still very much a support piggy.
Road Hog
The Road Hog has seen a points adjustment; it’s now cheaper, and it’s got ARM 19. The flamethrower’s range is a touch shorter, but let’s be honest, this pig was always going to end up close and personal anyway.
Check out the rest of the Thornfall Alliance rules in the Warmachine app.
Pre-order now – Azdharak, Herald of Immolation
Azdharak will be igniting on the Steamforged store soon, so watch for that blazing trail. While you wait for Azdharak to spread his wings, you’re able to pre-order the Orgoth Superheavy right now. Check out the Herald of Immolation and get ready to scorch the battlefield with Azdharak.
Pre-order now – Captain Eira Mackay and the Railess interceptor
If you’ve been waiting to add these to your tables and haven’t already picked them up on the Warmachine Tribe store to print at home, we’ve got good news.
Captain Eira Mackay and the Railless Interceptor will be pulling into the station on the Steamforged Store very soon. Pre-order now to be ready to conduct some mayhem with the Crucible Guard.
MiniCrate preview – Blighted Spinner leaving soon
There’s not long left to nab this month’s MiniCrate. The limited edition Blighted Spinner is available from 27 December to 27 January, so if you want it, make sure you’re subscribed before the month ends.
This twisted Khymaera variant puts a dark spin (pun fully intended) on the model found in the Khymaera Shadowflame Shard Auxiliary Expansion, complete with the vipers it “milks” for potent venom. Perfect for brewing concoctions that bolster allies or cripple foes.
As for what comes next, here’s a sneak preview…
