Enter the depths of the Fane of Nyrro in this week's Loremachine, exploring the life of Auricant Vorsalys, the first eldritch and the cult's enduring leader.

Auricant Vorsalys has outlived kingdoms, gods, rivals, and even the world that first gave him purpose. As the oldest eldritch in existence and the current master of the Fane of Nyrro, he rules not through spectacle or conquest, but through patience. Every measured decision, every delayed judgment, carries the weight of someone who has spent a thousand years learning just how easily certainty becomes catastrophe.

His faith began with silence. Born into an age when the gods had already withdrawn from their people, Vorsalys devoted himself to rituals that no longer received an answer. That absence became the defining question of his life, shaping a priest who sought understanding with unwavering discipline, until devotion slowly gave way to obsession.

Today, Vorsalys commands from beneath the Crown of Day, an artifact that still answers his call with the radiance of dawn despite the darkness surrounding its bearer. His authority rarely arrives with raised voices or dramatic proclamations. Instead, it manifests as endless deliberation, ancient traditions, and carefully constructed councils in which every outcome has been weighed long before the first argument begins. To many, his caution borders on paralysis. To Vorsalys, it is survival.

Even victory leaves shadows.

For all the power he commands, Vorsalys remains haunted by doubt. He helped lead the Fane down the path that transformed it forever, believing the gods had abandoned their children and that forbidden knowledge was the only path forward. Yet every step taken in pursuit of certainty seemed only to deepen the questions that first drove him. He has spent centuries chasing answers, only to discover that knowledge rarely brings peace.

Few relationships define him more than those forged through conspiracy. Alongside his fellow usurpers, Vorsalys reshaped the destiny of the Fane before eventually watching those alliances fracture beneath ambition, fear, and pride. While others sought certainty through bold action and ruthless dominance. Vorsalys learned that the greatest danger often comes from those standing closest beside you. It is a lesson that has shaped every decision since.

Among the eldritch, opinions of their Auricant remain deeply divided. His followers see wisdom earned through impossible experience, the steady hand that preserved the Fane through exile, divine judgment, and the death of the gods themselves. His critics see only hesitation, accusing him of hiding behind bureaucracy while others seize the future. Yet even those who challenge him struggle to deny a simple truth. The Fane still exists because Vorsalys endured when so many greater personalities did not.

Now the world has become something he never truly expected to witness. The gods are gone, the shadows beneath Eversael no longer offer sanctuary, and the Fane must define itself in the light once more. Vorsalys finally stands at the summit he spent centuries climbing, only to find little satisfaction waiting there. His legacy is not simply that he survived history, but that he must now guide a people beyond the fears that once defined them, even as he remains unable to escape them himself.

Beneath the dying light

Auricant Vorsalys is more than the oldest of the eldritch. He is the architect of Fane’s survival, a priest whose search for certainty reshaped an entire people, and whose greatest burden may be the future he fought so hard to preserve. Discover his full story in the Warmachine app .
