The Cygnar Gravediggers now sit at the pinnacle of military initiative, set to change the face of war in the Iron Kingdoms with their unprecedented airdrop tech. With the first Gravediggers sets now available to pre-order, it’s time to start your Trencher army.

This Warmachine army has one hell of a legacy. Though this is the first time they’ve debuted as a fully-fledged playable army, the Gravediggers are an evolution of the iconic Trenchers theme that first appeared in the original Warmachine: Prime, all the way back in 2003.
We’ll dig into the history in a future article, but if you’re keen to read more now, check out Buck Hasker and Cynthia Rosko’s lore in the Warmachine app.

MKIII-era Trenchers
So, how do you make such an entrenched (pun intended) concept feel fresh? You look upwards.
To the skies!
Coupling new technologies with their century-long legacy, this formidable fighting force is one of the first with enough guts and initiative to parachute from small transport skyships into battle.

Now airborne, the Gravediggers have been freed to fight whenever and wherever they are most needed, and airdrop supplies into the heart of conflict. In time, the Iron Kingdoms may adapt to their tactics, but for now, no force can boast the reach and raw fury of the Cygnaran Gravediggers.
Start your Gravediggers army
Now available to pre-order, the Gravediggers Command Starter gives you a formidable 30-point force for playing smaller-scale games. If you’re thinking of going in on Gravediggers — or dipping your toe into Warmachine for the first time — this Command Starter is a great first pick, as it's an excellent foundation for building a larger army.

A Trencher through-and-through, Captain Buck Hasker excels in stealth, setting a minefield of traps to explosively dispatch enemies. Meanwhile, Plugger cuts down swathes of infantry with its Storm Cannon, switching to volume fire to plug holes in larger targets.

Deceptively mobile for its size, Plugger capitalises on every takedown by pressing the attack before retreating to safety. Ramjaw lays down a hail of covering fire that forces enemies to take cover, and will knock anyone unfortunate enough to get hit clean off their feet. The Rowdies are specialists in versatile crowd control, taking down swathes of enemies with a variety of attacks. Hasker’s force is one to be reckoned with.

To build up your force, or for a lighter route in, the Battlegroup Box is it. Begin with lower-point games, then combine with other sets to build a formidable Gravediggers army.

Captain Cynthia Rosko — daughter of legendary Cygnaran warcaster, Allister Caine — lives up to her gun mage roots. Always moving, she peels back enemy armor to reveal their weakness, before she and the Patriot strike at range.
Practical and brutally efficient, the Valiant’s loadout can adapt to any battlefield, even mid-combat. Under her daring leadership, Cynthia’s force can block out the very sky under a hail of firepower.

Cygnar's other army – Storm Legion

The Gravediggers are a new army for Cygnar, separate to the already available Cygnar Storm Legion army. If wielding lightning is your thing, you may want to check out Storm Legion instead.
Gravedigger and Storm Legion models can't be used together, but there are two Command Cadres that can be used with both armies: Storm Forge and Hellslingers.
Cygnar Hellslingers Command Cadre
Hellslingers is also where you'll find Allister Caine, legendary gun mage and father to Cynthia Rosko.
Right now, the Hellslingers cadre can be found in the Khador v Cygnar two-player set, retroactively titled 'Blood & Thunder', and will be available separately in future. Sign up here for Warmachine updates.
