New army lore – Cygnar Gravediggers Compendium

As we draw closer to the first release for a whole new Warmachine army — the Cygnar Gravediggers, dropping March 27 — it’s time we take a look at the evolution of this Trencher force into the army we see today.

Available to read right away with a Warmachine app subscription, this info-rich Compendium digs into the details on how the army came to be, touching on everything from the advancement of Cygnaran military tech to the dawn of the airborne Gravedigger brigade.

Here’s a short excerpt:

The Gravediggers’ new heavy field guns can lay down sustained artillery fire to further support advancing forces. The powerful cannons also served to disincentivize the enemy from straying too close to the Gravediggers’ frontlines, as they would be quickly torn apart by incoming fire.

Expertly trained field gun crews operate their cannons in tandem with Gravedigger spotters who can call down artillery strikes by painting targets with flares.

In addition to being able to call upon a number of specialized ammunition types, the crews are also well versed in a variety of fire applications, depending on the role they are required to serve. These include corrective fire to hit targets with pinpoint accuracy, close fire intended to fall just ahead of friendly advancing forces, and suppressing fire intended to disrupt enemy movements.

Want to read the rest? You can find it now in the Warmachine app, where subscribers get access to a wealth of stories and background on the characters and events of the Iron Kingdoms, as well as experimental ‘Battle Forge’ gameplay scenarios.
